Windows 10: Should I be concerned? (FAQ)
After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer support Windows 10.You may be wondering whether you should be concerned.
Please do not be worried!
Do I have Windows 10?
If you already have Windows 11, changes regarding Windows 10 do not affect you.
If you're not sure, see my article to
find out which version of Windows you have.
Can I keep using Windows 10 after October?
Yes you can. It will not stop working at that point. Microsoft will only stop giving you free updates.
Can I get updates to Windows 10 after October?
Yes. As of July, Microsoft decided to offer free or low-cost updates for noncommercial versions of Windows 10 for another year, provided you take action. See their article
Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates.
Can I upgrade from 10 to 11?
Maybe. It could be as easy as clicking the button to install Windows 11. Or, your computer may say it doesn't qualify for 11, but in many cases it will still work fine if I ask the right way. If not, don't worry!
What happens if I keep using Windows 10?
No problem. Microsoft says failing to upgrade would be a security risk, but it's such a small risk for home users that it's not important.
Should I replace my computer?
If so, Windows 10 end of support is not the reason!
See my article to help you decide whether you should
repair or replace your computer.
What should I know about buying a new computer?
I recommend spending between $500 and $900. I can help set it up.
See my article about
